Upkongaro

The Upokorango Catchment Group is a community-led group of farmers, landowners, iwi and local people working together to support healthy waterways, resilient farming systems, and a connected rural community within the Upokorango catchment.

As part of the wider Whanganui River Catchment Collective network, the group focuses on practical, on-the-ground action that balances productive farming with long-term environmental stewardship.

The catchment group supports initiatives including:

  • Water quality monitoring and stream health assessments
  • Native planting and fencing projects
  • Farmer education and knowledge sharing
  • Community events and field walks
  • Collaboration with iwi, regional agencies, and landowners

The group believes the best outcomes come from local people working together, sharing ideas, and making practical improvements that benefit both the land and water for future generations.

Through a hands-on and farmer-led approach, the Upokorango Catchment Group is helping build a stronger, more resilient catchment from the mountain to the sea.
